In physical exercise, aerobic exercise is complementary to anaerobic exercise. Aerobic literally means "with oxygen", and refers to the use of oxygen in muscles' energy-generating process. Aerobic exercise includes any type of exercise, typically those performed at moderate levels of intensity for extended periods of time, that maintains an increased heart rate. There are various types of aerobic exercise. In general, aerobic exercise is one performed at a moderately high level of intensity over a long period of time. For example, running a long distance at a moderate pace is an aerobic exercise, but sprinting is not. Playing singles tennis, with near-continuous motion is generally considered aerobic activity, while golf or doubles tennis, with their more frequent breaks, may not be.Regular, vigorous aerobic activity can, as a result, reduce the risk of death due to cardiovascular problems. In addition, high-impact aerobic activities (such as jogging or jumping rope) can stimulate bone growth, as well as reducing the risk of osteoporosis for both women and men.
Anaerobic means "without air", and refers to the energy exchange in living tissue which is independent of oxygen. Anaerobic exercise is brief, high intensity activity where such anaerobic metabolism is taking place in muscles.Examples of anaerobic exercise include heavy weight lifting, sprinting, and jumping; any exercise that consist of short (roughly no more than 3 minutes, typically a few seconds) exertion is an anaerobic exercise. Most anaerobic exercises are performed in sets. Anaerobic exercise is typically used by athletes in non-endurance sports to build power and by body builders to build muscle mass. Muscles that are trained under anaerobic exercise develop biologically differently giving them greater performance in short duration-high intensity activities. While aerobic exercise is more popular for weight loss, anaerobic exercise helps in weight loss by increasing the resting metabolism of an individual.
Anaerobic exercise uses muscles at high intensity and a high rate of work for a short period of time. Anaerobic exercise helps us increase our muscle strength and stay ready for quick bursts of speed. Think of short and fast when you think of anaerobic exercise
