*** This thread is intended to answer all the common and basic questions people have when they first discover Flying Squad. Even if you think you know everything there is to know about us, please give it a quick read and if you think I need to edit/add anything, please let me know! Don't forget to check here for updates!***
What is Flying Squad?
Flying Squad (henceforth called 'FS') is a small organized community of traceurs who practice together frequently and help each other to improve and unify both mind and body.
What's FS about?
As said, FS helps traceurs (members and non-members alike) to improve their physical abilities by overcoming their mental barriers. We train together weekly, often for an entire day at a time. Sometimes more.
Check here (teamflyingsquad.proboards104.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1144416849) for the FS Forum Rules and Principles information. You must read this at least once!
Where is FS located?
We don't currently have any facilities open for public use, but you can find us training just about anywhere outside. Most of our members are centralized in London, although we have connections to Edinburgh, Australia, and the USA.
How can I get involved with FS?
Well, we're not hard to find. Members of FS are often training in London during the weekends, occassionally going to (free) public events. Especially if there's music involved. We like music.
Simply ask to train with us and if you match some of the qualities we like (see next question) you'll be alright !
I've been training with FS for X number of months--am I a member YET?
Maybe. To be recognized as a member of FS, you must be accepted by the FS community. If you think you should be a member, ask yourself the following questions (NOTE: we ask ourselves the same thing about you):
~Can I handle and control myself in a mature way?
~Do I bring a positive attitude towards myself and the people around me?
~Am I commited to parkour and its community?
~Do I help others better themselves?
~Will I continue to be a good role-model?
If you can honestly say 'yes' to all of these, then talk to a known member of FS and see where you stand. Don't be upset if you're not an "official member" as long as the FS team encourages you to stick around. Remember: it's not about status, it's about community.
What are the "titles" given to FS member?
a f.s.trainee is someone new who is in the training phase
a f.s. traceur is someone with a higher skill level
the difference between trainee, traceur and f.s.trainee,f.s.traceur is that the person knows the rules and principles of f.s. and is a welcome addition to flying squad.
a family member is someone who over time has become loved and respected by the majority.
an honarary f.s. member is someone who has a high skill level and a good attitude to other people and has helped and inspired us and others. e.g. jungle ,chima and sandros.
Even if I'm not a member of FS, may I continue to use the forums?
At the present moment, the forums are fairly open to public use. We are not interested in excluding anyone, we just want to keep things neat and tidy. That's why we have special "titles" for people we train with: to identify who participates and in what way they participate with FS.
With the growing number of people we train with, it's difficult to give everyone some kind of "title", and our private facilities and sessions cannot accomodate for EVERYONE we train with. So please don't take it to heart if you feel left out. You haven't been forgotten.
I still have a question!
Well, post it somewhere in this forum and someone will answer it for you. It might even get added to this super-amazing FAQ!
